N-Signalsystem
Beschreibung
Swiss signalling system N for Transport Fever 3
Signalling system N has been in service on the Swiss standard gauge network since 1986, alongside the older system L. An N signal combines the functions of main and distant signal. It uses three colours: red for stop, orange for an announcement (caution or a lower speed at the next signal) and green for execution from this signal on. The speed indicator shows the permitted speed as a digit in tens (8 = 80 km/h). The mod reproduces this behaviour with its own signal engine, so no other mods are required.
- Realistic signal logic: stop, caution, proceed, speed announcement, early warning, occupied and short section switch by themselves
- Automatic speed: the speed indicator reads the turnouts on the route and shows the matching digit
- Three mounting types: offset, standard on the mast and overhead on a gantry arm
- Automatic labels: name plate and station boards with the town's station code, or your own names
- Warning sound: in the cab view or while following, when your train passes an orange signal
- Signal window: change every option of a placed signal, plus the current aspect and its reason
- Route in the train window: the signals ahead with their aspects
Dynamic aspects
Signals show their aspects by themselves, following Swiss rules:
- Stop: red, speed indicator dark
- Caution: orange when the next main signal shows stop
- Proceed: green, with a digit (speed from this signal on) or without (line speed)
- Speed announcement: orange with the digit of the next signal
- Occupied / short section: bar or flashing bar (set by the waypoint, see below)
- Early warning: orange with "V" for short signal spacing
Speed indicator "Auto": the digit comes from the lowest turnout speed up to the next main signal, including curves directly at the turnout (rounded to the nearest 10 km/h, 30 to 150). Without a turnout in the section or from 160 km/h the indicator stays dark, as it does when the train runs straight through a turnout in a curve. The track speed is not taken into account, so the digit also shows on slower tracks such as mod tracks.
Distant signals show caution, announcement or proceed, never red, and do not stop trains.
Build menu
The signals are in the Signals tab under "N signal", together with the signal gantry and the waypoint occupied / short section / speed. You choose the mounting as an option:
- Standard: the signal sits directly on the mast, with a cage.
- Offset: the signal sits on its own carrier next to the mast, with folding ladder and work platform. Without mast also for walls and tunnels.
- Overhead: the signal hangs from a gantry arm or a signal gantry.
Options
- Side left / right (default left)
- Mounting standard / offset / overhead (standard preselected)
- Mast height 3.6 to 7.2 m
- Mast yes / no (offset). Without mast for wall and tunnel mounting, or on the track next to a gantry arm.
- Gantry arm yes / no (overhead)
- Front and rear board: advance notice, station start, station end, repeater (distant signal)
- Speed indicator off / auto
- Additional signal AS or BAS (main signal)
- Folding ladder with work platform or cage, equipment box, balise group, one-way
Waypoint occupied / short section / speed
Two Eurobalises in the track centre. Placed on the route behind a main signal, that signal shows when cleared:
- Occupied: orange with a bar, the signal before it announces 40
- Short section: orange with a flashing bar, the signal before it announces 40
- 30 to 150 km/h: green with the selected digit, even with the speed indicator set to off and even over a slower turnout. The signal before it announces it.
- Off: green without a digit, even with the speed indicator set to auto. The signal before it announces nothing.
Other routes from the same signal are not affected. With several waypoints in the section, occupied or short section wins over a speed, otherwise the lowest speed applies; off only applies if no other waypoint shows something.
Signal window
Clicking a placed signal or waypoint opens the signal window:
- Change options: every option as in the build menu. Each change replaces the signal right away, name, position and direction are kept.
- Current aspect: the signal picture, the reason (for example "Next main signal (A57) shows Stop") and the line the route is set for, with its distance.
Route in the train window
In a train's window, the "Route" card shows the main signals ahead with their aspects, up to the first stop signal or the station, and the distance to the next main signal. Signals from other mods and vanilla signals appear as a red or green dot.
Automatic labels
New signals are named after their town right away, for example "Luzern [LZ] (C3)". The station code (LZ) is derived from the town name and appears on the station start and end boards, the designation (C3) is picked at random for the name plate. Stars on distant signals are added automatically.
Your own names: rename the signal in game as [LZ](A32): "A32" appears on the name plate, "LZ" on the station boards. Both parts also work on their own (A32 or [LZ]) and can be changed at any time.
- Name plate: 1 to 3 letters, up to 4 digits
- Station: 1 to 6 letters or digits
Mod settings
Early warning for signal spacing below: off or 50 to 400 m (default 100 m).
N signals available from: 1985 (realistic, default) or always.
Default track side of N signals: left (default) or right, preselected in the build menu.
Warning sound at orange signals: never, cab view only or always (default). A warning sound plays when the front of your train passes an N signal showing orange (caution, early warning, speed announcement, occupied, short section).

Dynamische Signalbilder
Die Signale zeigen die Begriffe nach Schweizer Vorschrift selbständig:
- Halt: rot, Geschwindigkeitssignal dunkel
Optionen
- Seite links / rechts (Standard links)
- Geschwindigkeitssignal Aus / Auto
- Zusatzsignal AS oder BAS (Hauptsignal)
- Klappleiter mit Arbeitspodest bzw. Korb, Apparatekasten, Balisengruppe, Einbahn
Wegpunkt Besetzt / Kurze Fahrt / Geschwindigkeit
Zwei Eurobalisen in Gleismitte.
