Compass

Always know which way you are looking. Compass shows the direction the camera is facing as text in the game bar, as a small compass strip on screen, or both.

Features

• Game bar (default): the direction next to Earnings, for example "Northwest", "NW", "Northwest 315°" or just "315°".
• Screen compass: a strip with N, NE, E and so on that scrolls as you turn the camera, with the direction you face highlighted. Optionally with the heading in degrees underneath, or just the degrees. Place it at the top center, top left, middle left, bottom left or bottom right of the screen, in one of three sizes. The right side is left free for the game's windows.
• Free camera and follow view: the game hides its normal interface there; the screen compass can stay.
• Follow a vehicle: when the camera follows a vehicle (follow view, cockpit, or pinned from the line or vehicle manager), the compass can show the direction the vehicle is moving instead of the camera direction. A lock shows when it does.
• North: follow the map (the top of the minimap) or the sun. The game's sun moves like in the southern hemisphere: with "Sun (rises in the east)" it rises in the east, sets in the west, and stands in the north at midday.
• Stays clear of the game's own buttons, and clicks pass through it.
• Adapts to the game's font size setting.
• Purely cosmetic: it does not change your savegame, and achievements stay enabled.

Settings

Open the mod list when starting a new game or loading a savegame, and click the gear icon on Compass:

• Game bar: Off, Direction, Degrees, Direction and degrees
• Game bar direction names: Full (Northwest), Compact (NW)
• Screen compass: Off, Letters, Letters and degrees, Degrees
• Screen compass position: Top left, Top center, Middle left, Bottom left, Bottom right
• Show in free camera and follow view: Off, On
• When following a vehicle, show: Camera direction, Vehicle travel direction
• Screen compass size: Small, Medium, Large
• North: Map, Sun (rises in the east)

Settings from earlier versions are carried over automatically.

Recent changes

Version 6

• Fixed: the screen compass covered notification pop-ups at the top center. The notification pop-ups, the layer buttons and celebrations now open over the compass.
• Better compatibility with other interface mods: if another mod has replaced the same parts of the interface as Compass, Compass now keeps that mod's version instead of replacing it, whichever mod loads first.

Version 5

• The compass can show the travel direction of the vehicle the camera follows, with a lock as indicator.
• New setting "Show in free camera and follow view" (off by default).
• New screen compass position: Top center, below the notification icons. It is now the default.
• Removed the top right and middle right positions: the game's windows open there and the compass covered them. Those choices move to Top center.
• The highlighted direction no longer flickers right between two directions.
